What Healing Stage Is and What Collaboration With an Organisation Can Look Like

Healing Stage is a professionally led group process that draws on elements of therapeutic theatre, dramatherapy and Co-Active Therapeutic Theatre. This article explains who the project is for, how it works and what it can offer organisations and their clients.

Healing Stage is a project that draws on elements of therapeutic theatre, dramatherapy and Co-Active Therapeutic Theatre. It is not a leisure drama club and it is not a healthcare service. It is a professionally led, time-bound group process that connects work with an important theme, the creation of a theatre performance, a public presentation and follow-up post-performance meetings.

The core focus of the project is collaboration with organisations looking for a meaningful and sensitively led form of support for their clients. This format may be relevant where confidence building, working through a difficult life change, strengthening communication and social skills or creating space for new understanding of oneself and others are important.

The collaboration usually takes the form of a longer process over several months. The group meets regularly, gradually develops a shared theme and, through this work, creates an original or collectively developed performance. The process often includes a more intensive weekend format, and after the premiere there are post-performance meetings that help integrate what emerged during the work.

For organisations, this format can expand the range of client support, bring a distinctive group process with a clear artistic outcome and create a sensitive public moment of sharing through the performance itself. For participants, it can be valuable because it connects a personal theme, group experience, creative process and a moment of public recognition.

Healing Stage stands on the intersection of artistic practice, education in dramatherapy and experience with different target groups. In the Czech context, the project is developed by Martina Žembová and is supported by continuing education, supervision and ongoing professional collaboration.
